SPSS Tutorial (Total Scores)

Assalamu'alaikum w.b.t...this post is dedicated to those who still in the Why Why Wonder-space a.k.a Wonderland of SPSS...i believed that korang semua dah tau macam mane nak key-in data, then this entry will just cover the topic of how to calculate total scores before the data can be translated in Pearson Correlation!

Total scores adelah kaedah dimana variables (semua soalan-soalan dalam 1 section) digabungkan (sum) so that each section can be correlated to each other in the Pearson Correlation!

1) Automatik

*Go to TRANSFORM

*Click COMPUTE (pop-up Window Compute Variable macam kat bawah akan muncul)
*Select the appropriate group from the Function group list. The group labeled All provides a listing of all available functions and system variables.
*Double-click the function in the Functions and Special Variables list (or select the function and click the arrow adjacent to the Function group list).

*The function is inserted into the expression. If you highlight part of the expression and then insert the function, the highlighted portion of the expression is used as the first argument in the function.
*The function is not complete until you enter the arguments (a.k.a variables, takot tak paham plak hehe), represented by question marks in the pasted function. The number of question marks indicates the minimum number of arguments required to complete the function.

*Highlight the question mark(s) in the pasted function.

*Enter  the arguments. If the arguments are variable names, you can paste them from the variable list.

*Remember to put comas between variables!

*Click OK

*Nanti nama section yang korang compute tu ade kat bawah sekali dekat VARIABLE VIEW!

2) Manual

*TRANSFORM

*COMPUTE (pop-up Window Compute Variable macam kat atas akan muncul)

(cth: SEC1)

*Dekat TYPE and LABEL klik kat label box dan taip korang punye description of the scale (utk rujukan je)

*Klik CONTINUE

               VAR1 + VAR2 + VAR3 + VAR4 + VAR5

*Lepas tu korang klik OK!

*Nanti nama section (cth: SEC1) yang korang compute tu ade kat bawah sekali di VARIABLE VIEW!

*Seterusnya korang dah boleh buat PEARSON CORRELATION!

p/s: Sebarang pertanyaan, jangan segan silu! Boleh post komen korang kat bawah! Insya'Allah i'll reply you ASAP...
